Horse Riding
The stunning scenery is Lochaber is the perfect setting in which to enjoy this relaxing pursuit.
Riding in Lochaber mostly takes place on forestry roads at Glen Righ, Glengarry pine forest, Glen Loy and sections of the Great Glen way. Fassfern estate is also has nice tracks. Older forestry roads with green centres are particularly good whereas in forests where felling is currently going on such as Leanachan, the tracks tend to be much more stoney.
There are plenty of opportunities for beach riding at Morar and around Arisaig, across to Castle Stalker in Duror and also at Kentra Bay in Ardnamurchan.
An access group has been set up locally to look at improving paths and creating circular rides for horses. To get in touch with the group contact Kirsty Barr 01397 702184.
The new access laws apply to horses as well as to walkers and cyclists - find out more at the Scottish Outdoor Access Code site
