White Water Rafting
White water rafting is a very popular activity in Scotland. White water rafting in the Fort William and Lochaber area can be the best in the country. The River Garry releases water from the dam once or twice every week from April to October giving guarenteed grade 3 to 4 white water in a beautiful Highland glen. As the river drops downstream you’ll encounter rapids known as "double or quits", "cheese grater" and "surfs up"!!
When there has been rain or snow melt white water rafting also takes place on other rivers in the area such as the River Roy, River Arkaig and there are also scenic rafting trips available on the River Lochy and River Oich.
The adventure begins with getting kitted out. All you need to bring are shorts, a warm top and shoes you don’t mind getting wet, a towel and a sense of adventure. Your guides then give you a safety brief to tell you what to do in the boat and what to do if you fall out! Then it’s onto the river to find out who has paid attention. If you’ve never experienced white water rafting Lochaber is the ideal place to give it a go.
Funyakking and canyoning are also great alternatives to white water rafting.
