Canoeing & Kayaking

Kayaking in Glen Etive

The west coast of Scotland has become a Mecca for white water kayaking, sea kayaking and open canoeing due to the natural lanscape and the huge number of rivers, lochs and sea trips available in the area.
White water kayaking in Fort William and Lochaber is without a doubt world class and the area has become renound as having some of the most challenging rivers in  the U.K.
The River Nevis is known as the local test piece for most and there are over 20 rivers above grade 3 within half an hours drive of Fort William. As well as the known classics such as the Nevis, Roy, Etive and Moriston there are also the lesser known creeks that are abundant. All of the local rivers are best investigated through the  Scottish Canoe Assosiation guidebook "Scottish White Water".
If the hectic pace of white water kayaking is not your thing and you prefer a day on the briny sea then look no further. Fort William and Lochaber has an amazing choice of sea kayaking trips available from a few hours on Loch Eil to multi day trips into special places such as Knoydart and open crossings to the Islands from Mallaig and Arisaig. Sea Kayaking around Scotland's west coast is without a doubt world class with aventures for all levels.
There are also some fantastic open canoeing trips on offer in the Fort William and surrounding area. The start or end of the Caledonian Canal is just 4 miles out of Fort William and there ar many great wilderness adventures available aroundthe coatline and on the inland lochs.
