Mountains inspire us all in different ways - and you won't find a better example of the diversity of mountain culture than in the Fort William Mountain Festival's lectures, films, and fringe activities and events. This celebration of mountain culture takes place in the Nevis Centre, Fort William, and various other venues in Fort William. You'll find the full programme on the festival website.

Wednesday 15th February 2012 – Festival Opening Evening with Mary Ann Kennedy
We are proud to announce that Mary Ann Kennedy and singers will be joining us with an exclusive performance of Black Snow – Bliadhna an t-Sneachd Dhuibh along with a delectable 4-course dinner inspired and sourced from the mountains and glens of Lochaber. We will also be joined by none other than Mr. Ian “Spike” Sykes MBE. Ian needs little introduction but suffice it to say that he is not only the inspiration behind the Nevis Range Ski Resort but is also an active member of the Festival Committee, a past recipient of the Scottish Award for Excellence in Mountain Culture and one mean banjo player!

Highlander Freestyle Series

The Snowsports Scotland Highlander series is Scotland’s premiere freestyle snowsports competition. The series attracts skiers and snowboarders and it has established itself as the “Must do” comp in the UK.

BASP First Aid Course

This 2 day course runs from 9am - 5pm at Nevis Range. It's suitable for Outdoor activity enthusiasts and professionals; acceptable for all National Governing Body Awards and qualifications such as: MLTB, BASI, MBL, TCL, RYA, BCU and other sports. Anyone working in a remote environment or if you prefer a practical course with scenarios to aid learning. The content includes: safety, basic life support (BLS) and CPR in an easy and logical manner. The 2 days are intersperesd with indoor and outdoor practical sessions, including dealing with an unconscious casualty,wounds and bleeding, common medical emergencies, shock, fractures and other trauma often found in the outdoor environment.

Certificate Valid: 3 years. Revalidation by attending course again

Prerequisites: None or revalidate previous course

Mountain Bike World Cup

If you happen to be in the area during this weekend then you're in luck. We think that this is one of the best sporting events in Scotland, and it takes place right here in the highlands.

The event is part of the Mountain Bike World Cup series, and it's been held at Nevis Range since 2002, and the Fort William event has won numerous awards throughout the years for being one of the best events on the enire World Cup tour, thanks to the amazing Scottish crowd and the extremely hard work by the organisers!

The main event is the downhill, which takes place on our 'orange extreme' downhill track which comes down the mountain beneath the mountain gondola and which is accessed by the riders and their bikes by the gondola. The track is 2.82k in length and the champions ride it in less than 5 minutes!

There'll be more information available neared the time, but in the meantime we recommend you book your holidays and get your accommodation and travel plans in place.
